Basic Concept of Configuration

The MOBOTIX M1 camera can be configured in a wide range by setting many parameters. The complete configuration can be described in a simple text file, called Configuration File. The settings are grouped in sections.

The configuration is stored in the flash memory. At boot time it is read into the main memory of the camera (current configuration). Any modifications of configuration will be done on that main memory copy of the configuration. To apply changes for further reboots the configuration has to be stored into the flash memory.

Some changes of settings (e.g. for network, ISDN, mail) are accepted at boot time only. Therefore after storing you have to reboot the camera to establish the changes. Settings of Image Control, Event Control, or the Exposure Control use the current configuration without the need of rebooting.

Modifying the Configuration

The usual way to modify your configuration is to use the QuickInstaller, the forms for Image Control, Event Control, Exposure Control, or the submenus of the Admin Page.

The settings will be accepted by pressing the submit button of the page. To enable the change of the configuration for the next reboot, it has to be stored into the flash memory.

Handling the Configuration File

To handle the Configuration File the Admin Page offers different options:

Show Current Configuration This page will show you the current configuration of the main memory. There is also a raw version available.
Store Configuration This page will store the current configuration into the flash memory. You have to call this page to establish your settings after next reboot.
Restore last Configuration Using this page you can restore the last settings stored in the flash memory.
Reset to Factory Defaults Starting this page the factory configuration of the camera is loaded into main memory as current configuration. To establish the configuration you have to store the configuration and reboot the camera.
Save Current Configuration to local Computer Following this link, the configuration file can be saved on your local PC as a backup.
Load Configuration from File Loads the backup configuration from your local PC into the camera as current configuration. To establish the configuration you have to store the configuration and reboot the camera.
Edit Configuration File (experts only!) This page contains an editor for the configuration file, so it can be changed diretly. This function should only be used by experts. Any invalid changes can prevent the camera to boot again successfully. Submitting the form will use the edited configuration as the current configuration. To establish the configuration you have to store the configuration and reboot the camera.

Merging only Parts of Configuration File

Loading the configuration from flash memory, from a local PC, or setting back to factory defaults will offer a selection to overwrite only some section of the current configuration:

all All sections of the loaded configuration will be used and replace those of he current configuration.
access Only the user and password definitions for the WEB pages will be replaced by the load configuration.
interfaces All sections with settings for interfaces, networks etc. (ethernet, ISDN, time) in the current configuration will be overwritten.
image&control Will overwrite those section with information for image and event control.
